Meet our Staff

Thea Howard (She/Her)
Executive Director
Thea has been part of the Coutts team since 2017 and now serves as Executive Director. A Kansas native, she earned a BFA in metalsmithing and jewelry from Kansas State University before spending seven years in Japan. With over 20 years of experience in educational programming, she previously served as Programs Director at the Museum of World Treasures. At Coutts, Thea is focused on strategic planning, development, and expanding the museum’s reach, ensuring its continued growth as a vibrant cultural hub for the community.

Sheila Yrjaninen (She/Her)
Curator
Sheila has been part of the Coutts Museum of Art since 2017 and serves as Curator. She is dedicated to preserving the museum’s collection, ensuring each piece is cared for both aesthetically and historically for future generations. She also oversees the careful management of incoming exhibits.
A 2008 Art graduate from the University of Wisconsin, Sheila’s passion for art extends beyond the museum. She enjoys gardening, hiking, and exploring Kansas, as well as hands-on crafts like shearing sheep, making soap and candles, canning food, and sewing unique outfits for work.

Cam Austin (They/Them)
Experience & Engagement Coordinator
Cam is the Experience and Engagement Coordinator at the Coutts Museum of Art. Since joining in July 2022, they have managed marketing, membership outreach, and event planning to connect the museum with local and regional audiences.
A native of El Dorado, Cam spent 15 years as an Early Childhood educator, including teaching for the US Army. After returning home, they became deeply involved in the community—serving on boards for the City of
El Dorado Parks and Recreation, the Experience El Dorado Advisory Board, Church Council, and the PTO, while also assisting local non-profits with social media and marketing.
